If you are interested in a global positioning system device but not the steep price that comes with it, the TomTom One 3rd Edition GPS is a good choice. Costing about $249, this entry-level GPS device has all the good things from its predecessor TomTom One, but adds a Map Share technology and a "Help Me" safety feature.
Map Share allows the user to make adjustments to the maps such as noting which roads are blocked, adding new streets, and so on. This information can also be shared with other drivers by uploading your saved map with the TomTom Home Desktop companion.
Meanwhile, the Help Me safety feature informs the user where to find the nearest police station, hospital, or car service center, all based on the current location. Although it does not come with a text-to-speech functionality, it does come with a voice-guided turn-by-turn directions as well as a 3.5-inch touch screen.
