All while Sony and Microsoft are at each other’s throats coming up with the future of motion gaming, Nintendo does not seem worried in any way. In fact, their answer to all the ooh’s and aah’s exhibited during the demonstrations of Microsoft’s Project Natal and Sony’s PlayStation Motion Controller? A pulse detector.
Placing your index finger on the Wii Vitality Sensor, which is attached to the Wiimote, it aims to sense your pulse and, according to its official press release, "a number of other signals being transmitted by their bodies." The Vitality Sensor aims to "provide information to the users about the body’s inner world."
For a while, I thought I heard seniors rejoiced over this news. They just could not wait for the launch of the Wii Catheter and Rectal Thermometer.
How this device will be incorporated in video gaming is still vague, but Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata suggested that the Wii Vitality Sensor could be used to "let people unwind or maybe even make it easier to fall asleep."
Could it be the players falling asleep or Nintendo’s success? Just asking.
