Who says that gadgetry and environmentalism do not mix? Samsung and Sprint try to prove the naysayers wrong with the new Reclaim, which they claim as the most full-featured eco-friendly phone in the United States; a perfect smartphone for the environmentally conscious customers who count their movements by the amount of carbon footprint they leave.
Made from 80 percent recycled materials, the Samsung Reclaim is encased on a bio-plastic material made from corn, making it free from poisonous PVC and even fire-hazardous BFR. Beyond the green materials, the Reclaim also features a full QWERTY keyboard, a 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, and expandable memory of up to 32GB, as well as an onboard Sprint Navigation. Even its packaging is environmentally-friendly, as it is made from 70 percent recycled materials. Its charger, which consumes 12 times less power than a typical phone charger, is Energy Star-approved as it meets the highest energy efficiency standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy.
In part of their environmental efforts, partial proceeds of Samsung Reclaim will benefit The Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program, which supports land conservation across the US and protect some of the world’s important natural habitats.
The Samsung Reclaim from Sprint, which will become available beginning August 16, is available in all Sprint retail stores, including Radio Shack and Best Buy, as well as on Sprint.com, for only $49.99 with a two-year contract after rebates. The phone will also be sold at Wal-Mart stores in early September.
