It seems like Samsung is trying to get that slice of the ebook market as they introduced their 10.1-inch prototype e-paper display during an exhibit in Yokohama City, Japan. The color e-paper device is merely 0.7mm thick, has a pixel count of 450 x 600, a really low contrast ratio of 10:1, and the ability to display only 7% of the NTSC color gamut. But hey, it’s still in its prototype stage, so there’s a lot of room for improvement.
Samsung plan on start its volume production of e-paper displays within one or two years, which is no surprise if PVI (the manufacturer behind Kindle’s and Sony Reader’s displays) and Bridgestone are keeping an eye on them.
