With computing devices getting ever smaller and more portable, the likelihood of data theft increases. And with data storage devices also becoming more and more portable and handy, the risk of sensitive information possibly getting into the wrong hands also increases considerably. That is why data security has become an important issue nowadays.
In order to answer the problems of security regarding data storage, newer flash drives are now being manufactured with built-in encryption systems. An example of such would be the recent release of the Kingston DataTraveler 5000 USB flash drive. This ultra-secure USB flash drive is equipped with 256-bit AEs hardware-based encryption. Aside from that, it uses XTS cipher mode along with elliptic curve cryptography or ECC algorithms. It is FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified and with a pending Level 3 certification. With its level of sophisticated data security features, it meets the Suite B standards approved by the US government in terms of data security.
The Kingston DataTraveler 5000 is targeted for use by government and enterprise consumers who highly value the security of classified and sensitive information. It will be available in 2, 4, 8 and 16GB storage capacities. There is no news yet on how much each one of these data security heavyweights will cost.
