Residents living in the village of Woolhampton in United Kingdom are very lucky to be the first to try out fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband connection using telegraph poles. The test, to be conducted by Virgin Media, will have participants receiving download speeds of up to 50 million bits per second (bps) and see if the use of telegraph poles is a viable option for extending the coverage of broadband Internet especially in the rural areas.
Traditionally, broadband connection is paved by digging and laying cables that have since become prohibitive. The trial will begin in March and will run for about six months.
