It seems that the Apple iPad became the latest venue for malware. BitDefender reported that a spam campaign would lure would-be victims to download what was supposed to be an update of iTunes, promising iPad users with “best performance, newer features, and security.”
Clicking on the link, however, leads to a data harvester, a type of malware that steals software keys and serial numbers from installed programs as well as login passwords for email, social networking, and IM service. The malware, however, does not attack other Mac computers.
A Mac antivirus product was recently launched to counter the problem, but do not expect that this would be the end of a malware attack on the iPad.
