America’s First Offshore Wind Farm Approved

In an effort to come up with alternative sources of energy, the US Federal government finally approved the construction of an offshore wind farm spanning 24 square miles located five miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The 130 turbines that will be installed are said to generate 75% of energy requirements of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantuket towns.

However, do not expect this project to go smooth sailing as it is met with a wide array of protests from the local governments to the Kennedy’s to the coastal Wampanoag tribe. Their complaints range from “killing the pristine view” and consequently harming the local tourism industry to violating tribal rights by prohibiting unobstructed views of the sunrise.
