Osaka-based manufacturers Yodogawa and Kinki Knives Industries team up to develop the Meguru, their modern take on the traditional Japanese rickshaw. This electric car is powered by a lithium-ion battery and it can run a total distance of 25 miles with speeds of up to 25mph in a single charge. Although the driver uses bicycle handles to steer the Meguru, it is actually registered as a car.
The developers stayed true to the old-fashioned design of the local rickshaw in designing the Meguru, with its bamboo floors and fan-shaped doors made from washi paper. Click the link to see its test drive.
The two companies plan on commercializing the vehicle at a suggested price of US$10,000.
