Mercedes-Benz Introduces Electric Car Prototype

Who knew luxury car manufacturers have been venturing into electric cars as well? One such company is Benz AMG, which recently introduced its Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell prototype. At 526 horsepower, it is not as powerful as its gas-guzzling namesake, but compare it to other electric cars this prototype is like a rock star.

The SLS AMG E-Cell prototype also has a torque of 649 pounds per feet, which can be immediately felt from the moment the driver steps into the ladder. It can run from 0 to 60mph in four seconds, which is awesome for an electric car.

The electric drivetrain allows this car to efficiently place weight, while its lithium-ion polymer battery modules are also evenly distributed to lower the cars center of gravity. The motors, located close to each wheel, can run a maximum of 12,000 rpm.

The best news about this car is that it could grow out of its prototype stage and into production mode at some point in 2013.
