One of the features the Nintendo 3DS is supposed to have is “constant wireless connectivity.” Although Nitnendo DS and its spawns (the DS Lite and DSi) have wireless connection via WiFi, that option still needs an external Internet connection to get online and gain access to new levels, high score charts, and meet with other players. So if wireless connection in a Nintendo 3DS is constantly updated, then the company is considering 3G, tech experts surmised.
Nintendo has no word about it. However, NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s largest wireless provider, through their President Ryuji Yamada, has stated it is negotiating with certain players on providing 3G to handheld gaming systems. The company did not divulge who these players are.
And if ever Nintendo 3DS will have 3G, would this constant wireless connectivity only become available in Japan? We hope not.
