There is still room for another handheld gaming device, at least that’s what GamePark would like to tell us as it unveils their Linux-based Caanoo. Features include a 533MHz ARM9 processor, 128MB memory, a dedicated 3D GPU, and a 3.5-inch touchscreen. The controls would remind you of Sega Genesis back in the day, with a joystick instead of a d-pad. It also has accelerometer and vibration functions for enhanced gaming experience.
The Caanoo supports open-source games, which requires WiFi dongle to download. It can also display photos and a variety of video files like DivX, XviD, and MPEG4. The manufacturer claims of an upcoming official software developer kit (SDK) and app store, but we will believe it when we see it.
The GamePark Caanoo is expected to ship on August 15, costing US$149.90, to importers like Play-Asia.
