The Japanese are not only obsessed with pets, they are also obsessed with robot pets. And among those robotic animals that have been released for companionship reasons, this one can be closest to the real thing. The Chouchou Electric Butterfly features a robotic butterfly inside a jar. The owner then taps the jar’s battery-powered lid for the butterfly to flutter around. The butterfly looks so real it even spreads its wings while idle. See the video for a demo.
But just because this pet looks simple, it does not mean it comes cheap. Save a hefty US$76 once it is released in Japan come September.
