HP Drops Palm webOS for Own OS

Posted on October 19, 2010

After acquiring Palm and its webOS, HP announced that the mobile OS will be rebranded as HP webOS 2.0. This announcement comes 16 months after the original webOS was introduced to the public. The OS, which was hailed by tech experts as the iPhone killer, did not manage to steal its thunder with poor hardware and lack of support from major carriers.

The new platform features, among other things, true multitasking, an updated version of its social media connection service, and support for Adobe Flash 10.1.

The HP webOS 2.0 will be featured for the first time in the upcoming Palm Pre 2 (pictured), which will arrive in France this week and in the United States via Verizon in the coming months.
