Garmin Completes Acquisition of Navigon

GPS company Garmin has announced that it has completed its acquisition of rival company Navigon. No financial details were disclosed, but executives from both companies have nothing but words of excitement and anticipation, promising plenty of integration and new opportunities.

It looks like the two companies have decided that it is better to merge in the industry that has become very challenging, as manufacturers of traditional GPS devices are up against GPS apps that come for free.

Since its establishment in 1989, Garmin has sold 85 million GPS-enabled devices, the most out of any navigation provider. Navigon, meanwhile, puts its expertise in developing GPS navigation for smartphones and other platforms.
