Symbian Bids Goodbye to North America

It is very much obvious that Symbian, Nokia’s native mobile OS, has seen better days. But while Nokia will try to keep Symbian relevant in many key regions around the world, the OS will certainly bid farewell to North America, which gave no love to Symbian right from the start as its users favor iOS and Android.

In an interview with All Things D, President of Nokia’s U.S.A. operations Chris Weber says that the launch of Windows Phones in Nokia handsets is “essentially” a sign of Symbian’s adieu to North America. This means that Nokia will not release full-price or business-focused devices in the U.S.

Despite its gloomy sales performance in the region, Nokia pins its hopes at the yet-to-be-unveiled, Windows Phone-based Sea Ray. Perhaps developing devices with Windows Phones is Nokia’s last resort to make it big in this vast market.

“The reality is if we are not successful with Windows Phone, it doesn’t matter what we do,” Weber said.
