Nikon CoolPix AW100 Rugged Digital Camera

Nikon has recently introduced a new lineup of new digital cameras for the consumer. One of them is the new Nikon CoolPix AW100 Rugged Digital Camera. This new digital camera may be significant as it is Nikon’s first foray into the market for rugged compact digital cameras.

The new Nikon CoolPix AW100 is a 16MP compact digital camera that is waterproof, shock proof and cold resistant. It is waterproof for depths of 10 meters underwater, able to resist the shock of a 1.5 meter drop and able to resist temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius and still work. This makes it the digital camera to use for the outdoors and even in the most extreme of conditions, quite a special feature for a compact digital camera.

Other features of the Nikon CoolPix AW100 includes GPS support, electronic compass, map display and point of interest features. These are features that may be welcomed by avid travelers since the camera not only takes pictures but also helps keep a log of their trips and movement which can be viewed as a file using Google Earth. And yes, it can also record video in 1080p HD. The Nikon CoolPix AW100 Digital Camera is now available at Nikon for US$380.
