Famitsu Confirms Joystick Add-On for Nintendo 3DS

A Twitter user named @south1996 has posted a snapshot from this week’s issue of Famitsu, Japan’s biggest video game magazine, days before it is even available. The photo shows what has been speculated about Nintendo 3DS for weeks: A joystick add-on. (And by now, readers may have seen it as well.)

The so-called “slide pad” is designed to cradle the lower part of the 3DS. Although the pad would add bulk to the handheld console by about four centimeters wide and 2 centimeters thick, it would add another analogue circle pad on the right of the device and three shoulder buttons (L1, R1, and R2). The written text captured in the photo also shows that the add-on will be usable with Monster Hunter 3 (tri-) G, an updated version of the popular RPG series that Capcom has been developing for the 3DS.

Details about the arrival date and price of the add-on remain unknown.
