Electric Very Light Car by Edison2 Yields Astonishing Test Results

Edison2 announces an updated version of its award-winning Very Light Car. This time, the vehicle comes with an electric engine. Still in its prototype stage, the electric Very Light Car (eVLC) still uses the core design features of the original VLC, which won the coveted Automotive X-Prize in 2010. It can accommodate four passengers and runs up to 114 miles on a single charge from a mere 10.5kWh battery. The company claims the electric vehicle gets fully charged in less than seven hours from any ordinary 110V outlet.

Like the VLC, its electric counterpart claims the lowest drag ever recorded for a 4-passenger vehicle at cd=0.160 and a weight of 1,140 pounds. This results to only 5.3 horsepower with cruising speeds at 60mph.

What makes the eVLC even more impressive is the recent results of its independent laboratory tests. The car was put through an EPA-certified test and delivered a jaw-dropping 352 MPGe (miles per gallon gasoline energy equivalent) in the City cycle and 347 MPGe Highway cycle, for a combined average of 350 MPGe. Compare this result to the mere 99 MPGe of Nissan Leaf.
