Rolls-Royce 102EX Electric Luxury Car Test Drives Along Manhattan

Rolls-Royce has been developing the 102EX, which is said to be the world’s first luxury battery-powered electric vehicle. After its rounds in Europe, Middle East, and Asia, Rolls-Royce has taken the concept car for a test drive around the streets of posh Manhattan. As expected with what we previously posted, the electric version of the RR Phantom comes with the largest battery pack for a car.

The Rolls-Royce 102EX features a lithium ion battery pack and two electric motors, which are connected to a single-speed transmission. Each motor is packed with 145 kilowatts of power, providing 800 Newton meters of torque. The car is said to run from zero to 60 kilometers per hour in under 8 seconds.

But what is more impressive is the 102EX’s environment-conscious insides, which includes a champagne cooler and personalized table-top TV screens. The concept luxury car comes with vegetable-tanned leather upholstery and off-white carbon fiber interior trim and surfaces. Plus with the absence of a gasoline tank, the 102EX has more leg room in the back seat. Even its iconis “Sprit of Ecstacy” figurine is unique to its gasoline-chugging counterparts, as it is made of clear makrolon instead of steel and even illuminates with blue LED.

According to Rolls-Royce, the 102EX takes about 8 hours to fully charge. Its LED lights shine blue while charging, green when the car’s battery is full, and red if there are charging issues. If you are hesitant to plug the car into your household wall outlet, considering the hefty electric bill in the process, it can also be charged by driving over an induction plate.

The company remains unsure when the Rolls-Royce 102EX will be produced.
