Acer 3DTV Converts 2D Content Into 3D

The 3DTV industry may not be lucrative now, but all signs point to a 3D future on TV. The common mindset why consumers hesitate 3DTV is that it currently provides limited 3D content. Current TV shows, for instance, remain in 2D. It would be like buying an ordinary TV with an extraordinary price.

But Acer has something up its sleeve. Its latest 3DTV venture, the Acer HR274H, can convert a majority of 2D content into 3D. The TV would “pop” moving objects to the front of the scene while pushing the background a bit further away, thus creating a 3D illusion. Sure, it may appear as impressive as natural 3D images, but it is worth a shot. The 27-inch, 1080p 3D display makes use of an internal chip-based system to make the 2D-to-3D conversion a possibility.

The device uses a single HDMI cable to connect with a video game console, Blu-ray player, or set-top box. It uses polarized, passive 3D glasses instead of the usual battery-powered active glasses.

The Acer HR274H is now available for $599.
