Microsoft has just launched its latest update to Xbox 360, which would give the gaming console a new Metro user interface. The Metro UI would convert the Xbox from an ordinary gaming console into a home media center.
Although Xbox 360 has allowed users to download video and music content as well as stream content from their PCs, the new Metro update would enable them to find pieces of content in more sources. Content can be downloaded or streamed either in Microsoft’s own video and music store, in YouTube, or any other partner services including UFC, HBO Go, Verizon FiOS, and Comcast.
The new update would also allow Windows Phone users to control their Xbox remotely such as adding items for queueing or looking for content to send to TV while the Xbox is playing other content.
The new user interface appears similarly to that of Windows 8 with its tile-based elements. Also, new apps included in the update are compatible to the Kinect, allowing users to swipe through tiles using gestures or activate them with voice commands. Another highlight of this update is the Bing search screen that provides web content as well as potential shopping choices. For instance, a search for “X-Men” does not yield a Wikipedia entry, but all the movies available for download or streaming as you see in the photo.
The update will be available on your Xbox 360 in the coming weeks. All you need to do is to install it, or not.
