Tajima EV Mini Sport Available Soon

Tajima Motor Corporation may not be a household name yet, but it is slowly being recognized in its home country Japan especially for its electric vehicles. The company, however, has been turning heads internationally with its release of a zero-emission mini sports car.

The Tajima EV Mini Sport, which was showcased publicly in 2010, will be available for retail in Japan. The company added that the go-kart-looking electric vehicle will be available “soon” overseas.

The vehicle is light at just 280 kilograms and measures 2.49 meters long, 1.29 meters wide, and 1.09 meters high. It is powered by a 40Ah lithium-ion polymer battery, enough power to run about 30 kilometers on a single charge. Too weak for you? The car also comes in 80Ah and 120Ah versions.

The EV Mini Sport also comes with a 0.59-kilowatt motor, reaching at top speeds of 70 kilometers per hour. It is a bit slow by sports car standards, which sent netizens snicker with snide comments like “maybe it needs a mushroom to get a speed boost,” a reference to the Mario Kart video game.

Nevertheless, the Tajima EV Mini Sport will be selling for US$47,800, while the base model starts at $26,000. Buyers can then order separate batteries, exterior panels, lamps, and other accessories.
