Rumors about Motorola possibly unveiling custom-designed Android handsets has spread like wildfire after an adviser for Motorola hinted about it. In his post in Google+, noted Silicon Valley venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki writes: “Wouldn’t it be great if you could personalize your phone like this?,” referring to a video of a customizable car.
And it might just happen. A recent post on AndroidAndMe hints that the so-called Motorola X Phone (pictured) will actually be part of a larger brand and will include custom-designed configurations for storage capacity, color, apps, ringtones, and others. Another source suggest that this smartphone may even allow users to customize the memory, processors, and carrier support, with reported one-week delivery guarantee.
Such statements of custom-designed phones are not easy to dismiss, even in the age of Reddit and trolling in the Internet. However, there are sectors who express doubt about the rumor.
“Is Guy having a bit of fun with his fan base or is he legitimately gauging public interest,” asks Scott Webster of CNET.
Perhaps we will know the answer at the upcoming Google I/O, once it is the Google-owned mobile brand’s turn to present.
