Apple receives $290M from Samsung after patent dispute

Apple wins latest court battle against Samsung.

Apple wins again in its patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung. A U.S. federal jury finds the South Korean company guilty of breaching Apple-owned patents involving technology featured in iPhones and iPads, and should pay Apple $290 million worth of damages.

The verdict comes after two days of deliberations, which started when San Jose District Judge Lucy Koh provided instructions following closing arguments from both parties.

The two companies have been slugging it out in patent litigations around the world, spanning multiple courts. Legal analaysts have said these lawsuits from Apple against Samsung serve as a “proxy war” against Android operating system, which runs most of Samsung’s mobile devices.

This recent court decision increases Apple’s damage haul against Samsung to $929 million, which includes $599 million back in March. Last year, a jury ordered Samsung to pay Apple over $1 billion worth of damage after finding the former guilty of infringing the latter’s patents in 26 of Samsung’s products. However, Judge Koh later ruled the jury had miscalculated damages for 13 products.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Samsung says the company will “move forward” with its appeals and “continue to innovate with groundbreaking technologies”.

I see Dance Central as a superior dance simulation game because it perfectly turns you into a pro dancer (at least in your head). Don’t get me wrong, I play Just Dance and I find many of the routines borderline juvenile and WTF. I mean, have you seen the Tetris dance for Just Dance 2015?
