Top 10 most-searched entertainment gadgets of 2013

The ol’ 2013 may have come and gone, but it is not too late to take a look at the trends that rocked last year. Bing–you know, Google’s web search rival–has compiled the top 10 entertainment gadgets that people search on its search engine.

10. Kindle Fire – A popular alternative to tablets, Amazon has recently unveiled a new-generation Kindle Fire HDX, which boasts an advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and an innovative Mayday button for face-to-face tech support.

9. BlackBerry – A lot of BlackBerry news have cropped up this year, most of them unfavorable to the Canadian company. It has launched the Z10 and Q10 handsets with a lot of fanfare, but the reception remained lukewarm at best.

8. Nintendo – While the release of the Wii U in late 2012 remains tepid, customers continue to show their love for this gaming company. Nintendo launched new versions of its popular titles, Mario Party and Legend of Zelda, for the Nintendo 3DS.

7. PlayStation – This multimedia console stepped into 2013 with the release of the PlayStation 4 last November. With over 1 million units sold within the first 24 hours, it is obvious this won’t be the last we hear from Sony’s flagship entertainment gadget.

6. Surface – Updated models of the Microsoft Surface tablet were released last October, namely Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2.

5. Windows Phone – Microsoft’s mobile OS is slowly creeping into the public’s consciousness, especially with news about Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Nokia.

4. iPad – Two iPad models were released last year: the iPad Air and the Retina-equipped iPad Mini. Both entertainment gadgets include upgraded processors and cameras, as well as longer battery life.

3. Android – The interest about Android peaked after Google announced its latest mobile operating system, KitKat. This is the first time Android used a candy brand to name its most recent version. The company even forged an agreement with The Hershey Company to avoid potential trademark restrictions. 2013 was also when a slew of new Android mobile devices were unveiled, including the popular Samsung Galaxy S4.

2. iPhone – Not to be outdone, Apple unveiled not one, but two new iPhones: the 5S and 5C. The iPhone 5S boasts many hardware upgrades, including a fingerprint sensor on the Home button. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5C is Apple’s entry into the lower-cost smartphone market. The company also launched its latest mobile OS, the iOS7.

1. Xbox – Microsoft’s latest entertainment console, the Xbox One, went on sale last November in 13 countries. Over two million units were sold within the first 18 days, proof how the public remains enamored with consoles despite the dominance of mobile devices for their gaming fix.
