The smart home is slowly getting more and more advanced in terms of functionality. Although it may not yet reach the Jetson’s level, it might just be on its way there. But for now, there are a number of smart devices now available that will help create a smarter home. But as these devices abound, it will only be sometime before a standard platform for a connected home may be needed. Intel is already developing one and is introducing the Intel Compute Card for the masses.
The Intel Compute Card is designed and developed to transform the way smart devices connect and integrate into a smart home. The company is partnering up with other device makers in order to develop a common platform for connectivity of future smart homes. Intel is expecting that this will significantly change the way smart devices are designed and in creating a wide range of solutions for the smart home in the future.
The Intel Compute Card is a little more than a credit-card sized device that is equipped with Intel’s wide range of powerful processors. It also features integrated WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. It is designed for easy installation internally as well as externally. What the Intel Compute Card is aimed for is to provide computing power to a large number of devices. Users can easily attach it to a compatible device and provide increased computational capabilities and lifecycle. It is like adding another CPU to a device for added power. Intel aims also to make it easier for people to upgrade devices by simply replacing an old Intel Compute Card with a new one.
The Intel Compute Card offers an exciting way to connect smart devices in a more convenient way. If Intel is successful in trying to promote this platform with other device makers, then it will be able to change the way appliances and devices get connected in a smart home. The Intel Compute Card is expected to be available in the middle of this year. And around that time, Intel will also be providing info regarding the actual specs and pricing.
