Dell Optiplex 160 Tiny Desktop
2008-12-18 05:06:31 Section: Desktop PCs
Looking at the Dell Optiplex 160 Tiny Desktop, you may notice right away that it might look different from a typical desktop you have in mind. For a while there, you might even consider it to be a router other than a CPU from a distance. That is how the Dell Optiplex 160 may look like at first glance.
What makes it quite an interesting desktop to have is obviously its size. Everything is streamlined to save space. The CPU can be seen as a much smaller version of a typical tower model. It weighs only about 2 kilograms and measures 22.9 cm high, 4.7 cm wide and 22.5 cm long. It is powered by an Intel Atom single core processor, 80 GB SATA hard drive, 1GB DDR2 memory and comes with integrated video and the Vista Home Basic.
In terms of saving space, the Dell Optiplex 160 Tiny Desktop gets the job done. The only problem might be that this space saving desktop has to forego having a built in optical disk drive to remain as small as it is. But that is something that having an external DVD drive would solve, if you wish to fork up additional dollars for it. The Dell Optiplex 160 Tiny Desktop is priced at US$563, CPU only.

Why It's Not Good to Use Unlicensed Windows
2008-10-06 16:31:48 Section: Desktop PCs
The financial crisis experienced by Americans today, as well as the dire economic straits that other countries are immersed in, this is cause most people to resort to certain alternatives in order to cut costs. Schools and households cut down on food and electricity consumption and the likes. Large corporations opt to pirate software programs. This is pretty understandable, but it is not advisable.
According to a study sponsored by Microsoft, companies that are using unlicensed copies of Windows are more susceptible to technological glitches which may cause them to lose customer data, as well as their own. The rationale behind this is the likelihood that the people behind the unauthorized tampering of the media inserted other stuff into it, thus altering certain features of the program.
Although the fact that it is Microsoft itself who sponsored the study, the results that came out were still believed to be valid. Thus, large corporations are advised to stop patronizing unlicensed Windows so as to avoid the inevitable difficulties that will arise if they continue to make use of unlicensed Windows. Read more »

Suissa Enlighten Wooden PC
2008-05-27 18:30:35 Section: Desktop PCs
With all the restrictions about cutting trees, wood has become more of a luxury than a necessity. Recently, several small computer companies developed on that idea that wood as a luxury item and came up with wooden mouse, mousepads, and even keyboards. But what is more shocking is that Suissa is offering a line of custom-made personal computers that have a wooden body. In a statement by founder Howard Suissa, "With the integration of computers into our living environment, people are craving something more human. They relate to natural materials more readily than to the cold sterility of plastic or metal."
Yes, the hard drives, ports, and soft ware are still there, but they are encased in a uniquely-designed wooden case. As an added twist, Suiss now offers their Enlighten model, which pushes the unconventional designs even further with a round monitor. More than a wooden PC, the Enlighten comes with a micro ATX motherboard, which accommodates either a quad-core Intel or AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ processor, an NVIDIA 8800 GTX or ATI Radeon HD 2900XT graphics card, 4GB of RAM, 1TB of hard drive space, a DVD burner, and a 620W power supply.
Although the people's preference of wood over plastic is not scientifically or statistically proven (just look at the latest high-definition TVs and check if they are encased in wood), a number of people have been commissioning Suissa and ordering these wooden PCs. Because they are made of exotic wood like zebrawood, goncalo alves, leopardwood, and padauk, prices of these computers start at $6,150 and can go up to $35,000 for a customized server that can store over 1,500 DVD-quality movies. Apple New Mac Pro
2008-02-06 15:31:29 Section: Desktop PCs
After Apple has completed its systems' transition to Intel platforms, it finally introduced its brand new Mac Pro and XServe Systems for professional workstation and server customers. Only a few changes was made externally but switching the CPU architectures is an impressive feat, as it enabled PCs to run Mac OS X.
The move to Intel seems to be pleasing, as end users wouldn't actually notice of the dramatic changes that Apple's OS has gone through. Those who have familiarized themselves with MacBook Pro and the new iMac won't think of the transition a hassle at all. Also considered as the fastest Mac ever made, the New Mac Pro uses the fastest Intel Xeon architecture: 3.2GHz 8-core Xeon processing and a 1600 MHz memory.
The New Mac Pro includes the PCI Express 2.0 graphics slot which doubles bandwidth and supports the latest generation of graphic cards from NVIDIA (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT with 512MB of video memory or NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 with 1.5 GB of video memory). It also has a 3-D stereo port. Its support up to four graphic cards can drive up to eight 30-inch displays at once for advanced visualization. Read more »

The Apple iMac G5 is the third installment in the iMac series of personal computers. Its initial difference from the previous iMac versions in the series lies in its physical structure. Whereas the previous versions may have followed a brick like design, the iMac G5 takes a new sleeker form with added curves on its edges. This makes the new version look even better.
The iMac G5 is equipped with two firewire ports and three USB ports on its back panel. Two other USB ports are located in the keyboard for additional attachments. It is powered by Apple's PowerPC G5 processor with 512 MB of RAM and 160 GB hard drive. It is equipped with an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphic card and a DVD-R SuperDrive. It has an LCD widescreen that is available in 17-inch or 20-inch screen monitor.

Gateway 820GM Media Center PC
2008-01-25 04:54:53 Section: Desktop PCs
The Gateway 820GM Media Center PC is quite a good deal for a computer with its capabilities. Its notable feature is its quiet and virtually soundless operation that would be an added bonus if you relish a bit more peace and quiet. The Gateway 820GM Media Center PC also comes with a wonderful array of functions and features that one would look for in a Media PC.
It 820GM comes equipped with a 3 GHz Pentium 4 530 processor with 1GB of RAM. Its media features make it an attractive PC to have for its price range. The 820GM can also be bought with a dual-format DVD Burner along with its primary DVD ROM drive. The 820 GM also comes with a 250 GB hard drive and a 128 MB ATI Radeon X300SE graphics card.
One of the drawback 820GM Media Center PC is its bulky tower case. The Mini-tower design of the PC, which also houses the super silent cooling fans of the CPU, may not suit well for people who look to save some bit of space. But for those people who might not consider style and size for choosing a media PC, then the 820GM would do just fine and more. Read more »
