Excited about Grand Theft Auto V? Apparently, Rockstar Games has a bigger surprise. The latest from the GTA series will also provide access to Grand Theft Auto Online, a simple multiplayer online RPG that connects wannabe car jackers into an expanded world.
While Grand Theft Auto Online has the same game elements and geography as GTA 5, the online game has unique features such as player housing and player-generated content. It can support up to 16 players co-habitating in fictional city of Los Santos. Players can also purchase and customize vehicles, change their appearance, and complete missions in order to climb their way through the criminal hierarchy. They can also have their characters commit random acts of kindness and evil, something we first saw when GTA first started.
Because it is an online game, players have the option to explore the world alone or with friends. They can band together to complete missions or participate in ambient events such as going to the gym or riding a jetski.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available within GTA 5 and will be launched on October 1 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Sorry, no PC version this time.
It remains unclear whether the Grand Theft Auto Online would become available as a stand-alone product.
