Is the Xbox 360 Kinect Racist?

[1]Remember when HP webcams are accused for being racist[2]? Looks like another product is being tagged as such.

Apparently, GameSpot did a hand-on review on the newly-released Xbox 360 Kinect. According to the report, “two dark-skinned GameSpot employees experienced problems with the system’s facial recognition abilities,” which does not seem to be a problem when used by lighter-skinned employees.

It could be caused by the same effect that happened over at the HP[3] webcam: Because darker-skinned people reflect less light out of their skin, the webcams used by Kinect could not “see” the contrast. However, if this issue was not resolved by the time it is released to the market, Microsoft should expect lots of complaints in the coming days.
