When thinking about relaxing under the sun or outdoors, it is easy to picture out lounging on a hammock reading a book or just taking a nap. But doing so usually does not provide that sense of privacy that one may expect. A hammock may be ideal to relax in, but it may be out in the open. For those who like a little more privacy, the Hanging Cocoon may provide an ideal alternative.

The Hanging Cocoon is a unique take on the usual hammock, if you see it that way. The design is inspired by the tapering nests of weaver birds. And it does look quite inviting for those who like a bit more sense of privacy than what a typical hammock can provide. It is like an enclosure that hangs by a single rope and with an opening for a person to get inside.

The Hanging Cocoon can support up to 440 pounds with a 15′ nylon rope and steel carabiner that accompany the unique hammock. An 8-section aluminum ring becomes the hammock’s circular base. The shell is made out of a 350-gram blend of polyester and cotton. It is also the same material used to cover the sails of a yacht. In addition, the shell is treated with polyurethane for waterproofing as well as protection from the sun. Also ideal for camping or some other outdoor activity, the Hanging Cocoon is available at Hammacher Schlemmer for US$400.
